Using Podcasts for Promotional Online Radio Shows and Video

E-mail Print PDF

Part of promoting your website - especially for singers and bands - is getting in front of as many people as possible. Giving fans - and potential fans - something interesting to read, listen to or watch may keep returning to your website through a link. One of the ways that people like to hear about new sites is through podcasts.

Apple iPod rangeMultimedia snippets that can be viewed on computers and portable devices such as iPods and web enabled phones are called podcasts. The key to their popularity may be the fact that they can be received and displayed on a plethora of devices, which makes them as pervasive as radio and as engaging as TV. Think of it as your own homemade commercial for your business. Podcasts can be syndicated using RSS (really simple syndication). This is the same process that people use to keep up with blogs and websites. The RSS feed allows them to receive updates when changes are made on the site so they don't have to visit every day.

A podcast serves as a convenient and entertaining way for people to find useful items and information online. A multimedia presentation really gets the idea or point you are trying to get across in a much superior way than just written dialogue. It should also be unique and fresh to engage and attract your target audience efficiently. You can really make your podcast stand out by using eye catching props and sets for visually appealing video casts. This should be complimented with engaging dialogue and, of course, relevant topics.

In order for your podcast to be noticed people must be able to find it through their search engines and this means using keywords. It is imperative that you include keyword optimized titles, tags and links in your podcasts even if they are only in audio. Use every opportunity available to get your podcast seen by as many people as possible. Submitting your podcast s to online directories is another little known method that can really get people checking out your podcasts. Submitting to one of these directories takes a little work such as: Creating a press release to announce your initial submittal; Optimizing these press releases and submitting them to free press release sites. By doing this, people can sill find them even after you have moved on, which is invaluable residual advertising.

Let your existing customers in on the new podcast. Use your email list to keep them in the loop as you unroll your podcast project. Give them links directly to the podcast so they can view it and hopefully pass the link on to others. Today's consumer uses the web as much as they watch TV or listen to the radio and Podcasting serves as the advertising method of choice for this genre. You can increase your business traffic and attract loyal fans by turning your podcast into a radio or video series.

BBC on rocks?

The latest casualties in the BBC presenter scandals prove, again, the enforced licence fees should be removed. The BBC is out of control, the presenters are seen as nasty and rude, and the BBC is fined over £400,000 for fake competition results.
