Way back when people became a bit tired of rock-n-roll and punk, the New Romantics had a few rich years, both musically and with chart success. David Bowie, Roxy Music, Duran Duran and Human League added synthesizers and swirling melodies while retaining plenty of rock power.
The let’s-move-on-from-indie style of 2009 is well demonstrated by Merriweather Post Pavilion from Animal Collective, a deep and rich collection of sounds and voices that meanders from electronic to World to folk to dance. Our rating: 5 Stars

Alexandra Burke has the record for the fastest-selling download across Europe on its first day of release. Hallelujah sold more than 105,000 which beat the previous fastest download of 82,000 in one day — A Moment Like This by Leona Lewis from 2006. By comparison, Take That sold less than 10,000 downloads of Greatest Day on its first day.
