This past week in San Jose, California, at an American Idol concert, "Hate" was the vibe outside. A group of protesters from a Topeka, Kansas, church, named Westboro Baptist, were directing their hateful chants towards homosexuality. I must say how disappointed I am in the Westboro Baptist Church. The contents of their web site is so "Hate Oriented". I thought the purpose of a "Christian Church" was to proclaim Jesus, love God, and love their fellow man. Well this is not what they are doing. They are going all over the place and preaching Hate. I don't know about their "god", but my God does not hate and would never tell his "children" to go out and preach for the devil.
These churches, that are completely radical and on the verge of becoming a modern day cult, are spreading their message of hate across America, and using God's name to do it. Their are a lot of uneducated bigots not only in America, but all around the world who have and will continue to use hate as a weapon against others who have a different religious belief or who live a different lifestyle. The notion that hate can consume an individual or a group should not be taken lightly. All we have to do is clothes our eyes and look back in history to know that such things can and do happen.
In the end, we do live in the United States of America, and as Americans we have certain rights. One of which is to express our opinions, even when ours might not match what other people believe or feel. Freedom, that is what we are all entitled to, so disagreeing with a cause like this is not going to make it vanish. The "hate" oriented cause will still continue to exist. We do however have the option to let it be known that we disagree, and inform others that hate never wins. And it is not acceptable. Take a stand and refuse to let hate win, refuse to let hate consume your life. After all, this is America. We have the right to be free. Free from Hate.
