American Idol has been ruling the roost in the home television arena in the United States for the past 9 years. Talent is spread everywhere and finding the future superstars is the mantra of this competitive reality show. The first episode of American Idol was aired on June 11 2002 on the Fox channel and was originally created by Simon Fuller, a versatile TV show creator. Ever since its launch in the television media, it toppled many TV shows and has been the number 1 TV show in the whole of America.T The crew of American Idol conduct numerous auditions across the country and select at least 200 contestants from each city. The audition is merely a selection round to test whether the contestant is good enough to deliver quality. The contestants are strictly in the age range of 16-28 years. Once the candidates clear the audition round, then it is the time for them to be popular among the masses. Yes, once they get through the first round they will be called to the studio to perform in front of the panel of judges. Some candidates become superstars with the public, if not the judges. The process of elimination goes on for many weeks and may include a wildcard round in which candidates eliminated earlier have a last chance to come into the semi-finals and compete with the finalists. The winner is decided on the basis of the highest number of telephone votes received from the public.

This past week in San Jose, California, at an American Idol concert, "Hate" was the vibe outside. A group of protesters from a Topeka, Kansas, church, named Westboro Baptist, were directing their hateful chants towards homosexuality. Their website, God Hates Fags.com explains their view points and beliefs......

If you've ever watched the American idol show, you must be wondering who chooses the American idol songs for the American idol tryouts. But it's not as easy as you think! My understanding was that each singer chooses their own song to show off their singing skills at american idol tryouts. And of course they have to stick to an episode theme like western, soul, jazz etc.

When there are so many beautiful people participating in a show that's so popular, you should know that there are going to be American idol rumors. When the audition schedule for American idol started so many contestants were roundly rejected that they were really upset. Is it any wonder that the entire 2009 audition schedule of American idol was rife with American idol rumors?

American Idol is back in swing and will, apparently, spend more time on quality and performances - which means a lot less time on tedious and embarrassing cringe moments - for which we're glad.Another major change to the format of the show is the addition of a fourth judge. Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul will be joined by Kara DioGuardi for Season 8. DioGuardi is a singer and songwriter plus producer who's worked with past Idol champs Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks and the two Davids. Also notable on Kara's CV are Avril Lavigne, Pink, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, Natasha Bedingfield and Jewel. That's impressive. So with the additional time spent on performance and quality, perhaps Kara DioGuardi will also provide creative and positive guidance to the contestants - moving American Idol to an even better professional level.

The 2 hour final was an interesting mix of music and American tv gloss. There was plenty of sparkle and passion, albeit not so much from the contestants. Syesha singing with Seal was one highlight, which suggested a few things about music in the 21st Century. First, Syesha lost out because she was a less safe choice than the two Davids. Second, the huge number of votes (almost 100 million) was surely going to favour middle of the road rather than exotic. But third, talent quests are the new powerbrokers in entertainment.
The six girls of the top 12 performed a medley. and their strengths and weaknesses shone through. Amanda still impressed the most, with Carly a close second. Well, that was until Donna Summer joined them on stage. Controlled power, emotional growls and crisp diction shone through, a wonderful example for any contestant to try to emulate. Which Syesha did in her brief duet with Donna. The Carly Smithson and Micahel Johns duet revealed their considerable powers. Both could be great solo successes, especially with the right songs. Both have got more genuine personality than the other ten put together, and more importantly they can put that personality into their singing.

It was no surprise that David Cook won series 7 of American Idol. Basically, the judges and voters had removed all the raw talent and left us with the soft choices only. So Cook was a more interesting option. His voice has some character, unlike Archuleta's constant syrup. AND the votes were huge – 97.5 million this year (up from 74m in 2007). AND Cook won by 12 million votes. So a strong winner, even if not a supremely talented one.
